Report #974 from lg3

Then-Current Conditions : 35F / 2C, Mostly Cloudy - 1:53 PM CST Mar. 7

time for me to start gearin up.

the first thing I need to procure this year...is a new reel or two.

Both my Shimano reels are over 15 years old and neither has ever once malfunctioned.  That's sayin a lot since cranks put quite a bit of strain on these guys.

I lube em up several times a year, but lately, the noise/resistance just doesn't go away for long.

So yeah....happy with the brand's life expectancy, the Shimano Stradic FI Spinning Reels are what I'm most seriously looking at at this point. (I also considered Pflueger but read of some big fish lost by the line clip getting in the way..woops!)

Anyone have any thoughts/suggestions?

I've had shimano reels that have lasted forever. Not sure why I started to buy other brands. Probably going to go back to shimanos myself, but not that pricey of a model. Maybe if I was able to fish as much as yourself, i could justify the price.

Hey DWW, next time be like gillespie and jump on an ice flow and get a picture of it.

Really nice reels, smooth, well balanced and will last until you're bored with it.

Maxxx, fortunately not of the ice chunks were the size of Volkswagons like the one Gillespie was on.

The Stradic's are amazing reels. I have two of them and wish I had two more. If you want to go cheaper, I would recommend the Abu Garcia Cardinal. They're not as good as the Stradic, but they're way cheaper.

I have two Shimano Stradic reels and have had to replace the bails on them three times. They keep breaking right where the roller connects to the bail assembly itself. Shimano has always sent me replacements but it always seems to be a pain in the butt. I have three other model reels that are Shimano and haven't had any problems but there seems to be a flaw in this one.

Got some serious cabin fever going, just took a look through the photo albums, thanks Larry!

I'm with ya, Cold Front. Just today, I was saying "this is the worst I've felt all winter." Cabin fever is getting to dangerous levels!

Hey Guy's! Be very careful with that Cabin fever. If you remember last year it nearly killed me. I had to get medicated and everything. But I am happy to say I will be graduating from my 12 step program very soon and I am currently medication free...from the cabin fever anyway..Still on the ZAC from all these 12 hr shifts! DWW-I picked up one of those Abu Garcia Cardinal reels from the clearance rack at walmart for 9$. Looks like a pretty good reel, but well see. Be careful and stay safe.
