Report #1528 from lg3

Then-Current Conditions : 21F, Light Snow - 12:18 PM CST Feb. 7

I guess I don't get the "Tea Party" movement.   Supposedly its an acronym for "Taxed Enough Already".  Considering the below, can someone please explain the right's outrage over current income tax rates?

How about Bea Parties instead? "Borrowed enough already"?

For what its worth......in this chart, red = republican president and blue = democratic president.

as son as this nit wit PALIN runs for any other political office,,,its time to pack our bags and head to canada,,this country has gone insane,,,,excuse Me cliff notes on your hand on TV??????? she's sharp no denying,,, god help us!

you got my vote!
lg3 at 10:54 AM - February 08, 2010
you know larry if you think your tax rates are too low you can always donate more of your money to the government.
rbfe at 11:54 AM - February 08, 2010
Also you do realize that your graph does not represent property taxes, sales taxes, state income taxes, local income taxes for some, excise taxes, or fees, also don't forget socdial security ands medicare taxes. I guess I don't understand the lefts belief that we don't pay enough in taxes.
rbfe at 12:02 PM - February 08, 2010
rbfe, i dont think taxes are too low, per se. my thought is that if an increase is part of a solution - whether it be health care or economic recovery or paying down the debt (to name just a few), i don't see why the idea would be looked at as some "growing problem" that should be met with movements and new political parties. this is especially true after seeing the huge affect that the opposite (tax cuts) have actually had. I think supply side econ has some huge flaws.
lg3 at 12:17 PM - February 08, 2010
If a small increase in taxes were to accompanied by true cuts in spending not just a slowing in the growth of government spending then I don't think you would see the outrage but that is not happening and that is the true reason for the TEA Party movement I think.
rbfe at 12:47 PM - February 08, 2010
rbfe, you did find our common ground when it comes to true cuts. that WAS part of my initial point. But 1) I think the right being the source is ridiculous, considering the recent history of true fiscal conservatism and 2)I think that, slowing the growth - especially so soon into an administration that inherited what it did - is a STEP in the right direction. on top of that, hopefully, things will CONTINUE to improve with the re-institution of Clinton's pay-as-you-go policy which led to the last balanced budget. unfortunately, it was subsequently killed by Bush to implement medicare part D, one of the huge reasons for the deficit predicament we are in. anyway, to me, it seems that obama is closest thing we've had to a teabagger in a long time! so again...why the sudden complaints from the right? Lastly, lets not forget how big of a hole we are in... I heard Obama speak in NH last week. He mentioned an interesting stat: "If you just wanted to cut the deficit to balance the budget, and if you wanted to exempt out entitlements and defense, you'd have to cut all those other things by 60 percent." So again, i think you and i agree that spending has to slow. But my (his) last point there is... we do have to consider that there IS a all-at-once limit to that. i think an increase in tax revenue, cut/slow as much spending as possible, and sustained gdp growth all play a role.
lg3 at 1:46 PM - February 08, 2010
i think the next thing i will look into is the historical correlation between tax cuts and GDP alone.
lg3 at 2:11 PM - February 08, 2010
WOW,,impressive,,,i am inspired ..well stated,,,but this all makes my brain hurt,,,I'm thinking of writing a novel America Good ,Better,Best,,,,thats all we need,,and were going to put an end to the MAN..that we all work to make very ,very rich,,,while we all struggle daily for WHAT? a big bottom Line and a trillion dollar bonus to some fat cat,,,,,,we need enough for minnows and nightcrawlers,, and MUTT BEER whenever we're thirsty! Amen ,,thats my economic plan !
geno at 2:30 PM - February 08, 2010
I think that if you expect President Obama to cut spending in any way you are going to very disappointed, as is evidenced by his recent 3.8 trillion dollar busdget proposal. As for the Bush budgets I definitely agree he overspent and was not a fiscal conservative in any way but lets not forget that he did have two wars to fight and 9/11 caused quite a few problems within our economy. Also Clinton's pay as you go policy was caused by the Republican victory in 1994. There was no such policy his first two years.
rbfe at 11:01 PM - February 08, 2010
rbfe, Good, it sounds like we may also agree on bush, fiscally. A couple points tho. 1) I did have to look it up, but PAYGO was initiated in 1990 and then extended in 93 and 97...trashed by Bush in '02, again, so he could blow the budget for Part D - not for the wars and definitely not having anything to do with the recession yet. 2) Even if the wars played a role here, why would you even partially write off his actions based on these circumstances - many of which he caused....but you won't do at LEAST that for Obama who "walked into" every one you mention.
lg3 at 11:34 PM - February 08, 2010
I stand corrected on pay as you go. I am just concerned with the size of the Stimulus that hasn't stimulated anything and the 2011 proposed budget with its 1.3 to 1.5 trillion dollar deficeits, but I am more concerned with trying to figure out where to catch walleyes on the Chip this opener. I think we can agree on that too.
rbfe at 8:05 AM - February 09, 2010
I saw something interesting a few months back that puts 1 trillion dollars in perspective. Using $100 bills: 10K fits in your hand. 1 Million fits in a brief case. 1 Billion is a pallet of 1 million dollar briefcases. 1 Trillion is an entire football field of these 1 billion dollar pallets. Yikes!
RHM2 at 10:40 AM - February 09, 2010
RHM2,let me know when you find that football field. let's meet there. ill provide a briefcase for ya!
lg3 at 10:46 AM - February 09, 2010
