Chippewa Flowage Report #1870
Submitted by lg3
Then-Current Conditions : 70F, Mostly Cloudy - 10:17 AM CDT Aug. 18

the third time's a charm, right?

well, i said there'd be news, and news there is.  LRGRAF will be "transitioning" within a week or so here, BUT.... we've found a way to have that NOT include any goodbyes whatsoever.  as you'll see below, this is somewhat irreversable so I hope you all agree that this will work out great.

we're gonna be breathing some more life into our online Chippewa Flowage community.  this morning, we brought live a brand new eLodgic site for...

The Landing

If you take a look there, you'll see many of the tools that have helped keep us entertained and informed over the years.  The photo albums, the weather information, the directory, the report, and most importantly, the comments!  In fact, there has already been a bit of activity this morning.

this is where you'll find me now ...and HOPEFULLY the rest of us.

for the page that most directly relates to OUR report, simply bookmark:
http://www.thelanding-lco.com/report.php
.

GO ON......INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Please go on over (if you haven't already) and take a look at my report from this weekend's Chip Trip with DWW. I'm really hoping not to miss a step here, guys...and really hope to see you ALL over there!

A few related issues....

1.  This is all brand new, so I haven't talked to Denny over at the Landing about moving over our LRGRAF archive, but that would be awesome, especially our photos from the last four years.

2.  I have no idea what he is planning as far as report contributors.  I took the liberty of posting the first report, but I don't know who he's planning on giving this access to in general.  Obviously, if you are interested, contact him!  I'm here to help from a technical standpoint if anyone has any questions.

3.  Soon, you will likely find our geospots map over there as well.  There's a tad of difficulty in duplicating that for every eLodgic site, so give me just a bit of time for that one.

4.  Yes, for a while anyway, this site will soon forward to The Landing's new website.

Lastly, thank you to Denny.  He and his wife have been responsible for the amazing turnaround at The Landing.  If you havent been there recently, PLEASE stop in for some food (or drinks) next time yer goin under the bridge.  And of course, he's giving eLodgic (and to some degree us) quite the opportunity up on the Chippewa Flowage.

I can't wait to see all of your comments over there...and to keep in touch JUST as well as we have here.

lar

p.s. brand new implementation....so please let me know of any bugs...i already know of a couple.  thanks!

--booyah i already know him,,,and i will sure try to be a contributor,,,,,see ya'll at the tourney be sure to move to the landing site for further information......

--site's runnin a bit slow at the moment...will have that fixed shortly

--this is my first post from my new elitebook 8440p
Posted by geno at 2:51 PM

--All positive. Don't see any negatives. Congrats on another accomplishment. The site looks terrific. Like the idea they are open year round. Should make for some good reading on the cold winter nights.

--One more thing: now I know why the battleship isn't done.
Posted by Jim at 3:02 PM

--Took a look. Only suggestion is to add a Resort Report tab on the left like the photo album. Otherwise, as I see it now (and I could be wrong) the only way to the Report section is on the front page, no where else. Just my $0.02.

--now im embarassed, guys....haha...i have a half hour more of work to do. im sure u all saw some bad bugs while im workin on it from here. hold on just a few!
Posted by lg3 at 4:36 PM

--ok, PHEW. out of all days for the weather feed to start acting up, it had to be this one. in fixing it, i broke about 15 other things...but i think all is good now. of course, the weather info on the Landing's site is supplied by the government, so lets blame obama ONE more time here on this site! haha
Posted by lg3 at 4:46 PM

--Trav, I see your point. Thank you...will look into what i can do.
Posted by lg3 at 4:49 PM

--Anyone have any info on that bog close to the landing that broke off? I saw it Sat. and it was in two pieces both by eagle island. One piece is stuck in the bay on the northish side and the other was right by it and then sun. it was gone and I could not see where it ended up. It looks funny now going to the bridge because it is all open (carefull, logs are where the bog was)

--It's hard to read the report comments with the black text on the dark gray background.
Posted by CJC at 6:35 PM

--hmmm, CJC. wasnt seein that but I just changed a setting that maybe was causing that in your browser. does it seem fixed now?
Posted by lg3 at 6:39 PM

--(you may have to clear cache, re-load the page to see the change)
Posted by lg3 at 6:41 PM

--It looks good now. I was getting the dark gray on 2 different computers, both using Internet Explorer 7.0
Posted by CJC at 8:49 AM

--it was an error on my part. id incorrectly commented out some css....however, leave it up to IE to show me one thing and u another. thanks VERY much for the info.
Posted by lg3 at 9:40 AM

--No problem. It's always a challenge trying to get something to look the same in Firefox, Chrome, and the various versions of IE being used.
Posted by CJC at 12:00 PM

--Great work Larry! I have to pry the throttle out my right hand and pick up a walleye rod with my lt hand soon. All I can say is that any time Ellie and I were at The Landing, Denny always treated us like old friends. His hospitality is great. We think it's a good sign that you were able to start with the middle of the flowage and hopefully expand east and west.
Posted by JeffM at 8:27 AM

--Thanks Jeff. If you look at the banner of the Landing's site, you'll see their dark green road sign. In the full photo, Jessy and MC are standing below it holding up their coloring books. never know when old photos might come in handy!
Posted by lg3 at 11:35 AM

--ps. let me know if you want a fishin partner when yer ready! any chance you guys have the weekend of the tournament off? (sept 25-26)
Posted by lg3 at 11:45 AM

Chippewa Flowage Report #1868
Submitted by walleyemaxx
Then-Current Conditions : 66F, Clear - 11:53 AM CDT Aug. 17

Hi everyone,

Guided out of Chippewa Shores resort Monday. In the A.M., I took two guys out, and in the P.M., I took two Gals out. In the morning, we got into action right away. Most action was jigging in and around weeds. We caught dozens of big blugills, a few dozen Bass, mostly Large mouth, some good quality Perch, some small Northerns, and two nice Walleyes.

The bait of choice was jig and leech. We did try to fish some sunken bogs, but the wind made fishing exceptionaly hard out in the open. So we stayed in more protected bays. The action didn't slow to much for most of the morning. We moved trying to find Walleyes, and kept catching Bass , Blugills. Northerns, and perch. The Perch were good quality Perch in the 9" range, which made for a good pile of fillets when combined with the Walleyes.

In the afternoon, I had a real treat. I guided two ladies who are very good fisher people. With the wind making jigging very difficult, I decided that I would have the girls use bobber rods. As I started to explain how to jig the bobber line, they were doing it. I didn't have to explain how to give the fish time when the bobber went down, or to tighten up the line before setting the hook. these gals were very good fishers. Seems they spent a lot of time fishing with their dad when they grew up in Winona MN.

Action all afternoon was very good. Again the Blugills were non stop. We didn't catch the numbers of Bass or any Walleyes, but we got more and better quality Perch. The biggest Perch was 11". In all, for the day, we went thru a pound of leeches, and a dozen crawlers. that tells you how much action we had.

The weather was mostly sunny with very strong winds most of the day making for some bumpy boat rides as we moved around. The wind was howling out of the West-North West, which made coming out of Tyner into Chicago bay a lot of fun. The water temps were 72-74 degrees With cooler air temps, both during the day, and last night, I would expect the water temps to start cooling down. I didn't notice any bug hatches going on, and the algae bloom is still very thick. Lets hope that the water temps keep going down. That should increase the Walleye activity. I'm going to take my wife out fishing tonight. She's got me booked. Will be fishing a local lake. Will report tommorow.

Good luck fishing everyone.

ANYONE KNOW RESULT OF THE  PMTT TOURNAMENT THIS WEEKEND.

WAS ANYONE ON THE WATER THIS WEEK.

--I READ 10 WERE CAUGHT..BIGGEST 43 1/2", same boat caught a 41"
Posted by flowage ranger at 8:08 PM

--A new record was set at the PMTT Chippewa Flowage event with 28 fish in all, big fish up to 47.25” and a record of 5 fish caught on day two of the event that has never been done before. Scott Donovan and Chris Riebe both trail teams members from Illinois pulled out the victory after catching a record 5 fish up to 45” on day 2. They were able to locate the coolest water on the flowage by about 10 degrees and the muskies responded to their bucktail presentation. The flowage water has been extremely warm this year, in the low 80’s for the most part. Donovan and Riebe didn’t care what kind of structure they were working except that this small area had cooler water flowing into it then the rest of the flowage and the fish were active and stacked up in there. We will have all the details and photos up shortly from an awesome event. Unfortunately due to some computer issues, we will not have the full update, including Day 2 photos and Final Leaderboard on the website until Tuesday at the latest. Here are the Top 15 Places: 1. Scott Donovan & Chris Riebe – 5 Fish 2. Guy Mittlestadt & Scott Kieper – 2 Fish 3. Tanner Wildes & Tom Olson – 2 Fish 4. Jeff & Joe Anderson – 2 Fish 5. Del Colvin & Jeff Kozlowski – 2 Fish 6. Austin Vig & Andrew Matz – 1 Fish 7. Brian Clepper & Chuck Smida – 1 Fish 8. Tom Ustaszewski & Jon Michalec – 1 Fish 9. Ben Olsen & Andy Hamm – 1 Fish 10. Jerome Morris & Eric Burquest – 1 Fish 11. Jim Stella & Ty Sennett – 1 Fish 12. Jason Summers & Troy Bilbery – 1 Fish 13. Mark Lijewski & Clay Schroeder – 1 Fish 14. Bill Ramsey & Shamus Hanley – 1 Fish 15. Ross Korpela & John Adkins – 1 Fish
